چکیده

The study presents an overview of discursive complexology, integral paradigm linguistics, cognitive studies and computer linguistics aimed at defining discourse complexity. article comprises three main parts, which successively outline views on the category linguistic complexity, history complexology modern methods text complexity assessment. Distinguishing concepts we recognize absolute nature assessment relative determined by abilities a recipient. Founded in 19th century, theory is still focused validating predictors criteria for perception difficulty. We briefly characterize five previous stages complexology: formative, classical, period closed tests, constructive-cognitive natural language processing. also present theoretical foundations Coh-Metrix, automatic analyzer, based five-level model perception. Computing not only lexical syntactic parameters, but level situational models rhetorical structures, Coh-Metrix provides high accuracy show benefits processing wide range application areas profilers digital platforms such as LEXILE ReaderBench. view parametrization development matrix texts various genres nearest prospect may enable higher inter- intra-linguistic contrastive studies, well automating selection modification pragmatic purposes.

Natural Language Processing Complexity and Parallelism

This paper reviews the processes involved in Natural Language Processing (NLP). It then demonstrates the various kinds of choices that need be taken during the execution of the word morphology, the syntactic text analysis, or text generation components. It compares the time complexity of traditional serial algorithms and examines the possible expected gain in some corresponding parallel counter...

Natural Language Processing: Structure and Complexity

We introduce a method for analyzing the complexity of natural language processing tasks, and for predicting the difficulty new NLP tasks. Our complexity measures are derived from the Kolmogorov complexity of a class of automata — meaning automata, whose purpose is to extract relevant pieces of information from sentences. Natural language semantics is defined only relative to the set of question...

Empirical Studies Of Discourse Representations For Natural Language Interfaces

We present the results from a series of experiments aimed at uncovering the discourse structure of man-machine communication in natural language (Wizard of Oz experiments). The results suggest the existence of different classes of dialogue situations, requiring computational discourse representations of various complexity. Important factors seem to be the number of different permissible tasks i...

Complexity and Expressiveness for Formal Structures in Natural Language Processing

The formalized and algorithmic study of human language within the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) has motivated much theoretical work in the related field of formal languages, in particular the subfields of grammar and automata theory. Motivated and informed by NLP, the papers in this thesis explore the connections between expressibility – that is, the ability for a formal system to ...
